About the Tour

A high-altitude motorcycle expedition through the Himalayas — 13 nights, 11 riding days, and 1,800 kilometers across some of the most remote and spectacular terrain on the planet. The route takes you through the Spiti Valley, to the serene Chandra Taal Lake, along the legendary Leh-Manali Highway with its famous Gata Loops, past the ancient Key Monastery, and finally to the summit of Khardung La — the world’s highest asphalted road at 5,602 meters (18,380 ft).

Your expedition is led by Tiago — an experienced motorcycle expedition leader with extensive experience guiding riders through the world’s most demanding terrain. Tiago leads the group himself, supported by a second tour leader, a dedicated mechanic, and a full support vehicle for the entire duration.

This expedition is aimed at motorcyclists with at least medium-level riding experience, capable of riding on dirt roads and steep slopes with hairpins. The ambition is significant — but so is the support structure around you.

  • Day 0: International flight arrival in Delhi — capital of the Mughal Empire, the British Raj, and now the world’s most populous country. Delhi is your gateway to the Himalayas.
  • Day 1: Train trip to Chandigarh — one of India’s most planned and modern cities, designed by the legendary architect Le Corbusier. Meet our motorcycles and tour briefing.
  • Day 2: 230 km from Chandigarh to Shoja (2,690 m / 8,825 ft) in the Kullu District, crossing the Jalori Pass at 3,130 m / 10,270 ft. A day of adaptation to the organized chaos of Indian road circulation — colourful trucks, mountain hairpins, and the Himalayas announcing themselves for the first time.
  • Day 3: 200 km from Shoja to Kalpa (3,143 m / 10,312 ft) across small towns and villages, with the first real effects of altitude beginning to make themselves felt. Kalpa sits in the Kinnaur District, high above the Sutlej River gorge with views of the sacred Kinner Kailash peak.
  • Day 4: 110 km from Kalpa to Nako (3,647 m / 11,965 ft), entering the remarkable Spiti Valley — one of the most remote inhabited valleys in the world, a high-altitude cold desert where traffic flows less intensely and the landscape turns lunar. We are now in Buddhist territory — monks, pilgrims, and ascetics appear here and there along the road.
  • Day 5: 120 km from Nako to Kaza (3,650 m / 11,975 ft) crossing the Nako Pass (3,851 m / 12,634 ft) through an inhospitable landscape surrounded by mountains. On these narrow roads, when you come across a truck, there is no left or right — it’s whichever way you go.
  • Day 6: Rest day in Kaza to acclimatize to the altitude. We suggest a 50 km loop to visit Langza — a fossil-rich village at 4,400 meters dominated by a giant Buddha statue — and Komic with its ancient Buddhist Monastery at 4,587 m / 15,049 ft, one of the highest motorable villages in the world.
  • Day 7: 100 km from Kaza to Chandra Taal Lake (4,300 m / 14,107 ft) — a glacial lake of extraordinary beauty fed by the eternal snows of the Himalayas, its crescent shape giving it the name “Moon Lake.” Along the way we pass the magnificent Key Monastery — perched dramatically on a hilltop, continuously inhabited by monks for over a thousand years.
  • Day 8: 140 km from Chandra Taal Lake to Jispa (3,200 m / 10,499 ft), leaving the mythical Spiti Valley behind and joining the famous Leh-Manali Highway — one of the highest motorable roads in the world, connecting the Kullu Valley to Ladakh through some of the most dramatic mountain scenery on the planet.
  • Day 9: 220 km from Jispa to the Tso Kar salt lake (4,530 m / 14,862 ft) — one of the most epic days of the entire expedition. The route conquers the legendary Gata Loops — 21 consecutive switchbacks up the mountain face — before crossing the Lachulung La Pass at 5,059 m / 16,598 ft and descending to the vast, wild plains surrounding Tso Kar. Flamingos have been spotted on the lake’s salt flats.
  • Day 10: 150 km from Tso Kar to Pangong Tso (4,225 m / 13,862 ft) — the highest saltwater lake in the world, wedged between India and Tibet, its waters shifting through impossible blues and greens as the light changes. The route crosses the Kaksang La Pass at 5,436 m / 17,835 ft. Local communities believe Pangong Tso to be a place where heaven and earth meet — a passage to another dimension. The reality is simply one of the most beautiful places on the planet.
  • Day 11: 190 km from Pangong Tso to the Nubra Valley (3,100 m / 10,171 ft) — known as the Garden of the Desert, a landscape that combines sand dunes with snow-capped peaks and winding rivers in a surprising natural contradiction. At this altitude, near the border with China, you may spot the rare Bactrian camel roaming the dunes.
  • Day 12: 120 km from the Nubra Valley to Leh (3,500 m / 11,483 ft). In only 80 km we climb to the Khardung La Pass (5,602 m / 18,380 ft) — the highest asphalted road in the world. The engines struggle for lack of oxygen, but the impossible becomes true: we reach the summit and we celebrate. 40 more kilometers and we arrive in Leh, the ancient capital of Ladakh, where we leave our faithful Royal Enfields.
  • Day 13: From Leh, an early flight to Delhi returns us to the chaotic capital. Take time to discover its temples, street food, and ancient culture — the Humayun’s Tomb, the Qutb Minar, the lanes of Chandni Chowk — before flying home. Goodbye India, see you again soon!

  • Morning departures are typically 9:00 or as advised
  • Afternoon arrivals normally leave time to relax before dinner
